However, as it is written:
“What no eye has seen,
what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived”[a]—
the things God has prepared for those who love him— 1 Corinthians 2:9 (NIV)
Our world today seems challenging to imagine that better days are ahead. Evil appears to trump over good, and the righteous are crushed. Living an honest life may sometimes feel foolish. Today’s verse encourages us to view life through the perspectives of God – His ways and wishes.
The early church disciples of Jesus experienced hatred, mockery, and persecution because of their righteous lifestyle. Paul writes an encouraging letter to the Corinthian Christians to cling firmly to the assurance that God was with them.
Paul quotes from the book of Isaiah that Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection fulfilled God’s supernatural promise to each of us. Nothing about the future can frighten us when we understand what God has already accomplished in overcoming death through Christ. Their future was safe because of the cross; the same assurance is ours today.
God’s word is a constant reminder of the marvelous things He has in store for us. The wisdom of God is higher, more significant, and more wonderful than anything our eye has seen, our ear has heard, or our heart has even imagined.
When we choose to live according to God’s wisdom, God himself will prepare our future for us. So, let’s remember today that no matter how complex our story is, it is our guarantee as children of God that our future is better than anything we can imagine.
