To desire is to seek you, Lord.

Psalm 27:4

“One thing I have desired of the Lord, that I will seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord.“

The background of Psalm 27 is that David was on the run, trying to escape from his enemies. As a result, he was unable to come to the temple and sing the songs of praise or give offerings to the Lord.

To date, people admire David and his relationship with God. Although he was in the wilderness, running away from his enemies; David’s heart always worshipped, praised, and sought the beauty of God.

The scripture starts with the words, “one thing.” There are multiple things David could have asked considering the predicament he was in, but he had only one desire, and that was to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of his life, to behold the beauty of the Lord.

We have all been in situations where we feel, why does it seem the world is against us? Why are we facing this situation that is not in our favor? What do we usually do when we end up in such circumstances? We tend to doubt and drift away from his presence.

Let us learn from the life of David that when enemies stand against us, let us seek refuge in the Lord. 

When the flesh desires to doubt, let our hearts desire his kingdom more. As Matthew 6:33 states, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Things may not always go our way or we may end up in situations that we didn’t want to. During those phases in life it is important we learn to have faith in God. The faith that is built on prayers, praises, and constant worship
