“In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” – John 14:2 NKJV
Home is a place of safety, providence, refuge, and permanence in our lives and God’s Word promises us a heavenly home for our future in eternity. The context of today’s verse highlights this promise as Jesus was preparing His disciples for the arriving persecution and His future departure.
Jesus has commanded us in the Scriptures to fix our thoughts and concerns on heavenly things (Colossians 3:2), thus, knowing where we come from changes our perspective. We can be a friend of the world but never a lover of the world because our true treasure is in heaven (Matthew 6:20).
Eventually, all of us will one day return to our heavenly abode and finish our earthly journeys here. But the important question is, are we preparing for our lives in eternity?
As He promises us an eternal place of rest and refuge through His Holy Spirit, God also enables us to live a successful earthly life and prepares us for a glorious heavenly life with Him. There might be a lot we need to give up here, but what we will gain is far greater and everlasting.
