JESUS: You are more than enough

You, O LORD, are a shield for me, my glory, and the One who lifts up my head. Psalm 3:3

Insufficiency and shame always tries to lower our spirits. We often listen to that nagging voice in our minds that constantly reminds us of our inadequacies or tells us, our efforts won’t matter. When we find ourselves overwhelmed by the imposter syndrome, blaming ourselves and diminishing our self-worth, we should turn to Psalm 3, written by David.

David, too, faced the most challenging times in his life when he penned this psalm. Running from Saul was not as painful as fleeing from his own son, Absalom. It was his own flesh and blood who rebelled against him and sought the throne, causing David to feel like a failure as both a father and a king.

Yet, David did not allow his failures and shortcomings to define him. Instead, he sang a song of assurance in Psalm 3. In verse 3, he declares, “You, O LORD, are a shield for me, my glory, and the One who lifts up my head.” The Passion translation beautifully captures this sentiment, stating, “But deep down inside me, I truly know that you, Yahweh, have become my Shield; You take me and surround me with yourself. Your glory covers me continually. You lift high my head.” (Psalm 3:3 TPT) You are not defined by your weaknesses; rather, you find strength in your weaknesses through Christ Jesus, who empowers you.

Although we may experience shame, distrust, and rejection even from those closest to us, let us make an effort to sing this song amidst our distress. Do your friends despise, forsake you? Take it to the Lord in prayer! In His arms He’ll take and shield you; you will find solace there. Amen.
