Deuteronomy 30:20 NIV

“And that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.”

The Bible explicitly commands us to love the Lord, so we revere Him and keep His Word. Having a heart to do what God asks out of love rather than duty is what He desires of us. We must familiarize ourselves with the voice of our Shepherd so that we do not dwell in confusion but walk with a sense of clarity and vision. Holding fast to our faith eventually bears fruit when God entrusts us with His gifts.

Deuteronomy 30:20 is Moses’ guidance to the Israelites, so they don’t miss out on God’s promise that led them out of a horrendous life in Egypt. Holding on to God causes us to enjoy the riches of His love, favour, and earthly blessings.

Almighty God, thank You for Your promise that always comes to pass in its due time. Your favour and mercy extend for generations and uphold the righteous. May we remember to choose the narrow path of light and not stray away from You in this journey of faith, even as we near the glorious day when we will see You face to face. Lead us into Your salvation and help us remain faithful to You in every step. In Jesus’ Name, we ask. Amen.
