The Greatest Love

John 15:13

Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.

Love is often spoken of, sung about, and sought after, but Jesus redefines love in its most powerful form: sacrifice. Jesus spoke these words knowing He would soon demonstrate them on the cross. Jesus calls us friends. Not servants, not strangers, but friends worth dying for. That changes everything.

God knows us deeply, values us fully, and loves us completely. His sacrifice wasn’t for the worthy; it was for the willing. For those who would receive His love and walk in it.

This is the greatest love. A love that gives, suffers, and sacrifices for the good of others. It’s not based on feelings or convenience, but on commitment and selflessness. Jesus didn’t wait for us to be perfect or deserving. He saw our brokenness and need, and chose to give His life for us.

And now, He calls us to love like He did. To lay down our lives, not necessarily in death, but in daily acts of humility, service, and compassion. It is to put others before ourselves. To forgive, to serve, to give even when it costs us.

Who in your life needs to experience this kind of love today? Are there areas where God is calling you to lay down your pride, time, or comfort for someone else? Let Christ’s example inspire you to love deeply, sacrificially, and sincerely.

Prayer: Jesus, thank You for showing me what true love looks like. You gave everything for me. Help me love others with that same kind of selfless, sacrificial love. Teach me to lay down my life in the small, daily ways that reflect Your heart. In Your name, Amen.
