Psalm 33:8-9
Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.
Psalm 33 is a hymn of praise that celebrates God’s righteous character, His creative power, and His sovereignty over all the earth. It portrays the Lord as the only reliable foundation for our trust and hope.
Today’s passage especially refers back to the story of creation, where God’s spoken word brought things into existence. It reminds us that our response to the Creator of the heavens and the earth should be awe, respect, and absolute dependence.
God is in complete control of what He created – and that includes our lives as well. When we submit ourselves to Him, we conform our wants and desires to His divine will and His perfect plans for us. Some things that God permits in our lives may not make sense to us, but we must remember that God is in sovereign control.
Our plans may be limited to the immediate future, but God sees far into eternity. When we’re feeling discouraged with setbacks in our lives, we must remind ourselves that what God has promised will come to pass. We have the assurance that He will do just what He said.
Today’s verse reminds us that God’s Word is effective. When He commands something into being, it endures. Take God at His word today. Go back to the Bible and remind yourself of the promises He has given you. Then rest in the knowledge that your Creator, who knows you best, will do what’s best for you.
