Psalm 107:1 NIV
Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! His love endures forever.
Psalm 107 is a psalm about God’s faithfulness through different seasons of life. It repeatedly shows people crying out to God in their distress, experiencing His rescue, and responding with thanksgiving. It is like a testimony of God’s goodness, reminding us that He reaches us in every kind of trouble.
The psalm begins with an invitation: ‘Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! His love endures forever.’ It is a declaration of who God is, even before describing what He does. Thanksgiving begins with confidence in God’s unchanging character.
As we read further, we encounter people lost in the wilderness, hungry and thirsty; prisoners sitting in darkness; people suffering because of their own choices; and others caught in dangerous storms at sea. Their situations were very different, but their response was the same: they cried out to God, and He heard them.
Today, God is inviting you into His presence with that same invitation: give thanks. Yet, there are seasons when thanksgiving feels difficult. How do you give thanks when you are waiting for a job, facing financial pressure, grieving a loss, dealing with uncertainty, or praying for a breakthrough that seems far away?
Simply start with today! Thank God for the day’s provisions. Thank Him for the people He has placed in your life. Thank Him for another morning, another opportunity, another breath. Consider keeping a list of God’s faithfulness and return to it when your heart feels heavy.
The second part of the verse states, ‘His love endures forever.’ Circumstances may change, but God’s love does not. So, you can give thanks today because His goodness is not temporary, and His love has no expiry date.
