Shine Your Light

Daily Devotion · 2 min read

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

— Matthew 5:16

Matthew 5:16

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

The Word of God clearly states that we were all created with eternity in mind. Although our toil, hard work, and planning are mostly directed towards earthly well-being and family security, we are called to live a life focused on the Kingdom of God.

How does one live here on earth with the eternal Kingdom in mind? By studying God’s Word, loving others, and investing time in serving as Christ served, we store up riches in heaven where moth and rust cannot destroy.

But does that mean we can neglect our earthly responsibilities, which may extend over the next few decades? In Matthew 5:16, Jesus encourages believers to shine their light before others so that when they see their good works, they will glorify the Father in heaven. This clearly implies that God is concerned about how we live our lives on earth and desires that our actions bring glory to His name.

As we walk in the light of God’s Word, the Spirit of God will lead and guide us to work diligently towards the pursuits God has called us to undertake in our journey on earth. We must consider our lives an opportunity to share the gospel with those who do not know the love of Christ. With hearts of sacrifice and servanthood that reflect the character of Jesus, we can prepare people’s hearts for the second coming of Christ.

Prayer: Gracious Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Spirit that works in us and transforms us into Christ’s likeness. Help us shine our light before everyone, so people may see Your goodness and glorify Your name through our lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
