1 John 5:12 (NKJV) – He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life
According to God, the only way to have life is to have the Son. As believers of God, our fundamental belief is that Jesus is the way, the life & the truth (John 14:6). Also, in the Bible, we hear Jesus saying that He had come to give us life in abundance (John 10:10).
So, what is having the Son? Is it something to possess, like a religious book, is it to follow religious practices, is it to keep giving charity? What is it?
If we continue reading the passage, in the following verse, it is written, “I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life…” It says that those who believe in the name of the Son of God have eternal life and that verse 12 says, “He who has the Son has life.” This strongly indicates that to have the Son is to believe the Son and believing the Son makes us eligible for the eternal life. The more direct verse in the Bible is John 3:16 that says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
Believing encompasses many things…like believing that He exists, believing what He says is true, followed by shaping our lives around that truth. This predominantly changes our perspective to life filling us with gratitude, a hope and an endeavor to meet Him someday.
Let us thank God for His precious gift & embrace the Son for a constant companionship, looking forward to spending the eternal life with Him.
