Psalm 56:3-4

“Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You. In God (I will praise His word), In God I have put my trust; I will not fear. What can flesh do to me?”

Fear is a real emotion that has the power to wreak havoc in our minds. With the amount of stress we face on a daily basis, it only takes a little anxiety to send us spiralling into a wormhole of fear and worst-case scenarios. So, what’s the antidote to fear? How do we conquer our anxious thoughts before they leave us at the edge of crippling panic?

In today’s passage, King David gives us a glimpse of what worked for him. This Psalm was written when the Philistines had seized him in Gath. If anyone had a good reason to be afraid in this situation, it was David. But he didn’t let fear steal his peace. Instead, he did 3 things:

1. He reminded himself that he trusted in the Lord.
2. He praised God and exalted Him above his situation.
3. He was sure that God was in control of his life and people were not.

Are you going through intense fear and anxiety in your own life? Don’t let fear cripple your faith. Every time an anxious thought enters your mind, remind yourself that God is in control of your life. Surrender your cares into His powerful hands and trust that He will work things out for you.
