1 Peter 5:10

“May the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.”

What an amazing promise 1 Peter 5:1 is! Peter personally knew the ineffectiveness of trying to face suffering in one’s own strength. Peter wrote 1 Peter 5:10 to Christians who have been undergoing persecution and facing injustice throughout the world. He was encouraging them by explaining that none of the suffering is ever in vain, but they produce a good foundation for Christians.

In this world, we will suffer, and it is an inevitable part of our journey. We all have different battles we face—some we talk about and some we don’t. It is important that we know that God works in us and through us. Sometimes we may feel defeated, and it becomes hard to take a step further but remember what God is promising us here: after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.

We go through certain situations so we can be a blessing to someone else who is facing similar battles in life. God has a purpose at every turn of our lives, and nothing goes unnoticed. Just as diamonds are formed under pressure, God is establishing and strengthening us for what He has called us. He is the God of restoration (Joel 2:25). The LORD says, “I will give you back what you lost to the swarming locusts, the hopping locusts, the stripping locusts, and the cutting locusts.

When we feel we can’t move forward, let us learn to believe that the Lord is in control and He will always take care of us.
