This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us 1 John 5:14 (NIV)
Our confidence is never in ourselves but only in Jesus Christ, whose blood gives us access to the very throne of God. Today’s devotion falls into two sections, a promise and a command.
The Promise: God hears us
The Command: to ask according to God’s will
We know that prayer is a powerful lifeline and a means of communication with God. The effectiveness of our communication will define the strength of our relationship with God, just like it does in any human relationship. The more we pray and get to know God, the closer our connection with Him becomes. We invite God’s presence into every aspect of our lives by praying.
Our Father hears even the slightest cries; we can take comfort in that. God longs to comfort us and hears even the silent sighs–those tiny, undetected sighs of isolation, fatigue, or suppressed anguish. God promises that He hears and will hear all our prayers.
The second section of the verse shows the directive to pray according to God’s will. It’s not just a “naming it and claiming it.” As Jesus commanded in Matthew 6:10, true biblical prayer is submitting our will to God’s will; it involves pleading for “God’s will be done, on Earth as it is in heaven.”
God wants us to have a personal relationship and live for him. Let us seek God’s will for our life. God will give us the courage to put our wants and desires aside and ask for what God wills.
Submission to God’s will It is an act of worship.
