The Owner and the Guide

All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.” – John 16:15 NIV

Two essential learnings from today’s devotion are

  • God is the true owner of everything.
  • The Spirit of God makes known to us the things of God.

John Wesley put it this way, “When the Possessor of heaven and Earth brought you into being and placed you in this world, He placed you here not as a proprietor, but a steward”.

As God’s stewards, we handle resources in God’s way, for God’s purposes, and always for God’s glory. We bring nothing into this world, but by the grace of God, He permits some things to be placed in our possession even though we do not own them.

In our role as stewards, we accept what God provides us. We dare not even attempt to put those things ahead of God. We merely take care of the treasures He has given us and invest them wisely, remembering that He has the sovereign right to take them away at any time. Understanding this will help us live in a way that pleases God.

Our response is to trust in God, take care of what He has given us, and recognize that He is the true owner of everything.

In addition, we as stewards have the Holy Spirit’s indwelling power to lead us into all truth and transform us into Christ’s likeness as we abide in Him and He in us. The Spirit also enables us to share Jesus with the world and testify to others of our relationship with Him. Life under the guidance of the Holy Spirit will always glorify Jesus Christ.
