Ecclesiastes 10:1: Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour; so doth a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour.
Dead flies in an ointment causes stinking savour much like how a small mistake or a small sin puts a person of honour and wisdom in jeopardy. Dead flies and folly, the end result is stinking savour and/or a bad name. It takes little time to put someone or something in a stinking savour and a whole lot of time for someone to raise to honour and wisdom and/or have a good name in the society.
Dead files and folly, both are to be treated as sin. They come quickly, entice us, and rob us of our values and leave us in a garbage or a stinking pit. One sin of David, had he not repented, would have made him lose his kingdom forever. God would have lost His trust in him had David not openly confessed his sins. Because he confessed, God forgave him but he had to pay a heavy price for his sin. God forgave him and he did not stink any more.
Let us be aware of sin and its passion that so often surrounds us. We could be tempted every day, but remember every day that dead flies and a small mistake are enough to get us to stink. The Bible says to flee youthful lusts, to be holy because our God is holy. Give your life into God’s hands as well as your honour and wisdom. God will protect you and keep you holy .
