Matthew 5:14-16 – “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
Jesus said we who believe in Him are the light of the world. We are shining whether we realize it or not, but is our light visible to others? Some of us cloak ourselves with the ways of the world, and don’t let our light shine through. Sometimes we are so caught up in our own worries and problems, that our light grows very dim and is in danger of being put out altogether. But Jesus urges us to keep shining for His glory.
In John 8:12, Jesus says, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” We live in a very dark world, and Jesus brought light into our lives. His light now lives in each of us, and it is our responsibility to shine it bright and dispel the gloom that others we know are living in.
Prayer: Jesus, we want to shine our lights for your glory. Help us reflect Your light in our lives through our words, thoughts and actions. Our prayer is that others may see Your light in us, and seek You for themselves.
