Blessed are the Humble

Proverbs 22:4

By humility and the fear of the Lord
Are riches and honour and life.

It is the nature of God to love the humble and raise them up, when their Chronos gives rise to their Kairos.

Yes, God works at appointed times!

Our reverence for God during the every-days of life (Chronos), brings about these appointed moments (Kairos). Know that “To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven” – Ecclesiastes 3:1.

The land of Israel was filled with idol worshipers during the days of Gideon. In fact, even his father had built an alter to Baal – an idol, and nothing more. But, Gideon was steadfast in his commitment to God, and that did not go unnoticed.

One day, the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon and promised to deliver Israel out of the oppression that they had endured from the Midianites. Gideon was a humble man. He told the angel that his clan was the weakest amongst the tribe of Manasseh, of which he was the weakest in his father’s household.

But, we know how the Lord loves to use the weak, to display His might.

And, so, was chosen Gideon, to fight the Midianites. The Lord instructed him to choose 300 men, with whom He delivered Israel from an army of around 1,20,000 Midianites. Gideon was exalted as a hero by the Israelites and asked to rule over the nation.

But, he, in his humility, said, “I will not rule over you, nor will my son rule over you. The Lord will rule over you” – Judges 8:23. Such was his reverence for the Almighty.

We don’t need strength, knowledge or talent for God to take notice. We need humility and respect, to catch God’s eye.

Do we have what it takes for God to bless us with riches, honour and life?
