“Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country.” Deuteronomy 28:3
Blessedness is a condition of joy, contentment, and delight in God. We usually label anybody blessed when they’ve achieved anything that’s materially satisfying, but that is not the true meaning of blessedness.
‘But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you’— True blessedness is reflected in our spiritual status when our hearts are at rest with God.
The Old and New Testaments echo the same teachings — when we obey the Lord with all our heart and seek Him faithfully, God will add up everything that’s good to us. He will make sure we live in contentment. This scripture reveals the depth of God’s heart for us. God’s plans for our blessings are never temporary or local, but they are concerning the nations and the whole world. When we are blessed, we shall be a blessing too!
But, known well, a new level of blessing requires a higher level of faithfulness— the reason why God explicitly commands the Israelites to obey all His commandments carefully as they are marching onto the promised land! Obeying the Lord is the greatest form of freedom a believer can experience.
Such is our God who causes true riches, abundance, and glory to abide for us just because we seek Him with a true heart.
