Psalm 44:8
In God we boast all day long, and praise Your name forever.
Psalm 44 is Israel’s prayer for God’s help after being defeated by their enemy. The psalmist begins by recalling God’s favor over their past victories (Psalm 44:1-8) and ends with a plea for help. He acknowledges God’s great hand and mercies in establishing Israel. The Israelites could never have boasted of their skills or might, but only in God’s continuous and powerful presence.
In our society, boasting has evolved as a part of one’s self-worth and identity. Most people consider sharing their achievements, possessions, or experiences as a reflection of their status and accomplishments.
What or who do we boast in all day long?
Are we crediting God for everything He has done and continues to do in our lives? Our purpose in this world is much bigger than our personal dreams and pride. It begins and ends with God. Our breath, health, wealth, and most importantly, identity are from God alone. Where would we be without our Savior, Jesus Christ? The Apostle Paul reminds us to boast in the Lord, for it is by what He did that we are made whole (1 Corinthians 1:30-31).
Those who have tasted and seen the goodness of God in their lives cannot help but praise and thank Him. Today, let’s remind ourselves to give God the glory that He deserves and not boast in our own strength or the help of mere mortals (Psalm 60:11). Instead, let us place our lives upon God and His Word. May all those we connect with come to know how great our God is and what He has done for us. Let our faith in Christ do the talking.
