Isaiah 49:13

Sing, O heavens! Be joyful, O earth! and break out in singing, O mountains! For the Lord has comforted His people, and will have mercy on His afflicted.

Long ago, in the rugged Andes Mountains, two tribes lived in separate worlds. The lowlanders made their homes in the lush valleys, where it was warm and the rivers ran freely. High above, in the cold, rocky peaks, lived the mountain people, who knew every steep trail and hidden path. One day, the mountain people came down to the village. They were not there to visit amicably. They stole food, tools, and in the chaos, they took a baby from one of the families.

The mighty men among the lowlanders decided to take up the challenge and bring the baby back. But try as they might, they failed in their task. As they entered their village defeated, they learned that the mother had undertaken the impossible task and returned with the baby.

This story highlights the love of a nursing mother and reflects today’s verse. The mighty God of Jacob loves His people. He has gone to great lengths to redeem them. He comforts them. Even though a nursing mother forgets her child, the Lord will never forget His own (Isaiah 49:15). His love remains relentless toward Israel, despite their unfaithfulness and rebellion against Him.

The story of Israel is our story. We were once lost and forsaken in our sins. Without the love of Christ, we would never be redeemed. Like Job, we cry for our Redeemer to come to our rescue (Job 19:25). As always, God’s love never fails. Jesus made a way for us to experience freedom and love.

Rejoice today, for you are redeemed through Jesus Christ! How great is the Father’s love for you!
