1 Peter 3:13-14
Who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good? But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. And do not be afraid.
University senior Rachel refused to alter lab results for a shortcut-hungry group. They humiliated her and laughed when she presented flawed data honestly. The professor, impressed by her integrity, used her project as a teaching model and later recommended her for a prestigious internship. Rachel realized that, although alone, standing in truth invited Heaven’s applause.
Obedience may exclude you from certain social circles, but it enlarges your spiritual bank account. A lifestyle of obedience ushers in the blessing of the Lord – deep, untouchable joy, not superficial comfort. When mistreated for righteousness, remember Jesus before Pilate – quiet, anchored, victorious. Choose today to mirror Jesus in calm, steady responses. God uses such moments to set you up for success.
We are children of God, adopted into the family of God. This is our true identity in Christ! Therefore, the decisions we make must not be motivated by fear, but rather by faith and truth. Opportunities to entice dishonest decisions will bombard you; however, choose to remain in truth. The initial consequences are uncomfortable, but so is the pruning of a plant. In the long run, it will only result in growth and fruitfulness.
Apostle Peter ends the verse emphasizing, “do not be afraid.” The early church needed encouragement as they faced persecution, and it is still more timely today. Believers around the world endure heavy persecution. Take a moment to pray for them today. Let not fear dictate our choices. Let our choices be driven by our love for God, founded on His Word.
Good advice. Yes we need this sort of courage especially now when Christians are being attacked all over the world.
