Psalm 148:1
Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD from the heavens; Praise Him in the heights!
Psalm 148 begins with a powerful invitation. The psalmist calls everything in heaven and on earth to praise the One who created it all. From the highest heavens to the lowest parts of the earth, creation joins together in a magnificent chorus of worship.
Moreover, this psalm reminds us that worship extends far beyond special occasions. Every day, creation points to God’s glory. The sun shines at His command, the stars hold their places in the sky, and the angels worship before His throne. Each part of creation fulfils God’s purpose and reflects His greatness.
One evening, a father and his young daughter walked outside after dinner. As darkness settled over the neighbourhood, the little girl looked up and noticed hundreds of stars sparkling across the sky. “Daddy,” she asked, “who turns on all those lights every night?” Smiling, her father explained that God created every star and placed each one exactly where it belongs. The child gazed upward for a few moments and then replied, “God must be very great if He can hold all those stars and still take care of us.”
Her simple observation beautifully captures the message of Psalm 148. The same God who rules the vast heavens also cares deeply for His children. And just as the stars praise God by shining, we praise Him through trust, obedience, and love.
Life’s pressures often compete for our attention. Worries, responsibilities, and disappointments can easily drown out our praise. However, Psalm 148 encourages us to lift our eyes higher to a God who remains worthy of our worship. The One who holds the stars in place also holds our lives securely in His hands.
