Everything we need. God.

Hebrews 13:5

Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Abraham was journeying to the promised land. His nephew Lot also journeyed with him. They came to a point where both of them had many possessions. Abraham was blessed because he loved God. Lot was blessed because of Abraham.

Abraham followed God. He knew that God would never leave him nor forsake him. He knew that he already had everything he needed. God! The one who loved him. The One who promised him a future. The One who could make the impossible possible.

Lot followed Abraham. He was also blessed. But his conduct was covetous. His decisions proved that he trusted in owning material possessions more than seeking God. He only looked out for himself and didn’t consider the wellbeing of others.

Abraham and Lot were now at a point where they had to go their own separate ways. Abraham had given Lot the option of choosing the land to settle. Abraham would take the remaining.

Genesis 13: 9-11 says Is not the whole land before you? Let’s part company. If you go to the left, I’ll go to the right; if you go to the right, I’ll go to the left.”

10 Lot looked around and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan toward Zoar was well watered, like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt.

11 So Lot chose for himself the whole plain of the Jordan and set out toward the east. The two men parted company.

In the end Lot’s area was destroyed because of evil and sin. Where covetousness is present, sin, evil and destruction follow.

Whereas verse 18 says, So Abram went to live near the great trees of Mamre at Hebron, where he pitched his tents. There he built an altar to the Lord.

An altar of worship. True worship makes us content because we trust God. Abraham went on to become great. He chose to follow God. He was Content. We can be too.
