Ephesians 2:19 NKJV
Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God.
A stranger has no recognition, rights or authority in a family’s household. A foreigner in a country does not belong to that country and hence does not possess citizenship. In the same way, when we are without Christ, we are outside the family of God. We are foreigners and strangers from the covenant of the promise. We are without hope in life and without God in this world (Ephesians 2:12).
So, how can we become a member of God’s family? The answer is, by being born again. As Nicodemus asked Jesus, should we enter a second time into our mother’s womb and be born? (John 3:4). No, not at all. Thanks be to God, by His Spirit we become born again when we put our faith in Jesus and accept Him as our Lord and Saviour.
Now that we are in Christ Jesus, we who once were far off from God have been brought near to Him by the blood of Christ (Ephesians 2:13). Now instead of death, we have life; instead of sin, we have salvation; and instead of hopelessness, we have eternal hope and joy. Now, our citizenship is of heaven!
Are you grateful for this privilege of belonging to God’s household? It’s a blessing that is priceless and worth beyond measure. So, as members of His family, let us align our plans, habits, attitudes, value systems and morals to best display our position and belonging. As we have the opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers (Galatians 6:10). And the world watching will see God’s love through us.
