Fear Not

You shall not be terrified of them; for the Lord your God, the great and awesome God, is among you. Deuteronomy 7:21

In Deuteronomy 7, Moses reminds the Israelites that they are God’s chosen people. He asserts that God will bring them into the promised land and warns them that they have to defeat seven nations greater and stronger than them. However, Moses also assures them that God will fight for them and empower them to defeat all their enemies. All the Israelites had to do was stay faithful to God and keep His commandments.

Like the Israelites, we often face Goliaths that cloud our vision of what lies ahead. Fear is real; it cripples us and prevents us from recalling God’s promises for our lives. Uncertainty of what’s next can kill us from within, but when we trust God with child-like unwavering faith, we start seeing things with divine vision and wisdom. In the Bible, God tells us to “fear not” or “not be afraid” approximately 365 times, equipping us with the courage to get through an entire year. One verse per day against fear!

Today, take the time to identify the giants in your life that can bring you down to your knees. Write them down, and confront them in the name of Jesus. Surround yourself with a holy atmosphere of worship and the Word, and declare God’s enduring promises over your life. Fear cannot withstand the presence of our great and awesome God! When we reassure ourselves that the Sovereign God is with us, fear has no choice but to lose its grip on us and flee!
