Romans 5:5
Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
Hope is powerful. Many who have survived being stranded at sea or isolated on deserted islands testify that hope was the very thing that kept them alive; the hope of rescue, the hope of seeing another day, the hope of reaching a better place. Hope gives strength to endure and courage to press forward. In the life of a believer, hope is not wishful thinking; it is deeply rooted in faith in God.
Scripture tells us, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1). Biblical hope is a confident expectation based on God’s character and His promises. It never disappoints because it rests in Him who never fails.
The moment we receive Jesus Christ as our Savior, God gives us the Holy Spirit as our Helper (John 14:16). Along with His presence, the Holy Spirit pours the love of God into our hearts. This love awakens a deep affection for Christ our Redeemer, who freed us from sin, guilt, and even the power of death. We experience this love especially in worship, as our hearts respond to the One who set us free.
Because God’s love lives within us, we carry an unfailing hope. This hope enables us to navigate life’s challenges, guided and strengthened by the Holy Spirit. No matter the season, we are called to keep hoping, trusting that God is at work.
Let us hold fast to hope, for the God who promised is faithful and He will surely bring His good plans to pass.
