Philippians 3:13
One thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead.
At times, we’re all tempted to live in the past, whether by nursing old wounds or clinging to past successes. However, Paul’s example points us toward something different – a life that looks forward.
Paul had plenty to boast about: his heritage, his zeal and even his religious accomplishments. Yet, he considered it all loss compared to knowing Christ. And so, he made a conscious choice to forget what’s behind and press on.
This is not about pretending the past doesn’t exist. It’s about choosing not to let it define us. Your failures don’t disqualify you, and your past victories don’t complete you. There is still more grace ahead, more work to do, and a deeper fellowship with Christ to pursue.
Paul’s passion wasn’t rooted in earthly gain but in the upward call of God. That means our eyes must stay fixed on Jesus, not on regrets, not on recognition, but on the eternal prize of being with and becoming like Christ.
So today, ask yourself: What am I still holding on to that’s slowing me down? Lay it before God in prayer. Then, with fresh focus and determination, move forward. Don’t run aimlessly; run with purpose, run with passion, run with your eyes on the finish line.
The past may have influenced you, but it doesn’t have to imprison you. God’s calling lies ahead—so press on.
