Generosity of God

Romans 8:32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?

In this verse, we encounter the unparalleled generosity of God. It paints a vivid picture of sacrificial love—God willingly offering His Son for the redemption of humanity. The rhetorical question that follows emphasizes logical certainty – “if God spared not His Son, will He not also graciously provide everything else?”.

If you noticed, in the previous sentence, you read offering and not offered. The sacrifice of Jesus on the cross of Calvery was not for only that particular period. His offering, 2000 years ago, was made for our sins, whether big or small, that we make even to this day. He had us in His mind amongst all His physical and mental pain on the cross. He had the same love for our ancestors, us and future generations that He was an offering on behalf of.

The sacrifice of Jesus stands as an example of God’s love and the foundation of our faith. His love is indeed immensely profound such that it compels us to trust in the limitless generosity of our Heavenly Father. The logic is clear- if God went to such extraordinary lengths for our ultimate well-being, how much more will He freely and generously provide for our daily needs? He says, in Matthew 6:25-26.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

The assurance here is not just about material provisions; it contains the totality of our existence. God’s generosity extends to our spiritual, emotional, and physical needs. In Christ, we find the source of all things necessary for life and godliness.

Today, let’s anchor our trust in the extravagant generosity of God. The sacrifice of His Son assures us that we serve a God who withholds nothing good from us. In every need and aspect of our lives, we can rest in the confidence of God. The God who delivered His Son for us will freely give us all things.
