John 15:16 – “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.”
When Jesus was on the earth, He handpicked each of His disciples. He called people from different backgrounds, taught them, and equipped them to be fishers of men. In the same way, God has picked each of us now in this generation. He showed us His love and the way to salvation. God, in His great mercy, drew us to Himself.
But God didn’t just choose us so we could live our own jolly lives. He has given us the task of bearing fruit. We are fruitful when we follow the Holy Spirit’s leading in our lives and reach out to others with the love of God. The world around us is in dire need of a Savior and we know Him personally. Isn’t it our responsibility to share the good news of the gospel around us?
Today’s verse also implies that when are rooted in Christ and live fruitful lives, our prayers will be answered. When you abide in Christ, you will live the abundant life. God will align your desires with His will, and He will meet you at the point of your need. Choose to dwell in the presence of the God who chose you – He is the answer to your every prayer.
