The Inheritance of the Blessed

Psalm 37:22 NKJV

“For those blessed by Him shall inherit the earth, but those cursed by Him shall be cut off.”

An inheritance is something we receive as a gift – not necessarily because we’ve done something to deserve it, but simply because of who we are and whom we belong to. In Psalm 37, we see the word “inherit” mentioned multiple times. King David says that the following people will receive an inheritance:

  • Those who wait for the Lord (Psalm 37:9)
  • The meek (Psalm 37:11)
  • The righteous (Psalm 37:29)
  • Those who keep the way of the Lord (Psalm 37:34)

God will bless them, and they shall inherit the earth. They will receive the abundant life that the Lord promises and will not lack any good thing. The people of God will be the head and not the tail, establishing God’s authority in the land where He places them.

So, what do we need to do to receive this inheritance of the blessed from the Lord? We need to seek the Lord, commit our lives to Him, and receive His righteousness. As we humbly submit ourselves to God, wait on Him, and keep His ways, He will bless us and grant us a heavenly inheritance even while we live on this earth.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for the inheritance You’ve reserved for those who follow You. Help me be a good steward of what You’ve entrusted to me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
