“Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is”. 1 John 3:2
God’s agape love for us was revealed when He sent His Son to take our place. Those who receive Him and believe in the name of Jesus, the Son, are identified as children of God(John 1:12).
The author John, always referred to himself as the disciple that Jesus loved(John 21:20). He identified with the love of God, and it transformed him. God’s love transforms us to be more and more like Jesus and less like the world. When we abstain from sin(1 John 3:9) and practice righteousness, we are God’s children, not the devil’s.
We do not receive an inheritance from our earthly parents when we disobey them. As children of God, we are not striving after an earthly inheritance but an eternal life with God. We enjoy the privileges of being God’s children as we walk in obedience to His word and lead sinless lives. He does not expect us to be perfect right away. With His grace and discipline, we are maturing to be more like Jesus, the perfect Son.
God’s love should grow in us and overflow into the lives of others around us. The way we treat others should reflect His love. When we aim to become like Him, God will reveal more of His nature in us. Remember, we have the Holy Spirit who abides in us and helps us keep His commandments.
Let us live every day as God’s dear beloved children, surrendering in obedience to Him.
