I’m an Overcomer

“He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new name.” Revelation 3:12

Apostle John wrote this letter to the church in Philadelphia. The first few chapters of this book were a revelation to him from Jesus, the High Priest. Jesus Christ is the righteous head of all the churches. The context here is that He was evaluating three out of seven churches in Asia(Revelation 1:11). He commended, complained and corrected them to do better. To be overcomers!

Jesus’s comments are reassurance of His promises to the overcomer- the one who perseveres in faith. Overcomers don’t compromise on their walk with God. They hold on strong to their faith with the help of the Holy Spirit. As believers, this is our calling and purpose in life: to be overcomers.

Despite the threat to Daniel and his friends’ lives, they overcame with the presence of Jesus in the fire of their affliction(Daniel 3:17). We, are almost daily faced with the choice of either compromising on our faith or overcoming with the help of the Holy Spirit. It is either one or the other. We cannot have a lukewarm approach as God will spit the lukewarm out(Revelation 3:16). Though many are called, in the end, not all are overcomers.

Our Lord has promised that those who overcome will be a pillar in the temple of God, inscribed with the name of the Father, the name of the new Jerusalem city and the new name of Jesus Himself. Eternal honours are worth more than all the fading honours of the world. Today, let us overcome the giants in our lives as God empowers us with His Spirit. We will walk our journey of faith in victory, in Jesus’ Name!
