Deuteronomy 7:13 – “And he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee.”
Giving gifts is an expression of love. The giver spends time thinking about what would be a suitable gift. They make the effort to go through a multitude of options and then finally settle on the one they think is best. They get the gift wrapped up so it looks pretty, and wait with bated breath while their loved one opens it.
One can imagine that’s a bit of how God might feel when He blesses us. In today’s verse we see the Lord’s blessing being pronounced on the Israelites. He promises to bless them, multiply them, bless their children, the work of their hands, their possessions and their dwelling place. Doesn’t that cover just about everything?
God still loves to bless His children. And He does so on a daily basis, whether we realize it or not. We may not be worthy to receive His gifts, but He still gives them because He sees us through the blood of Jesus and loves us. Our response to His love must be one of gratitude and a lifetime spent learning to love Him more. May we never take the Lord’s blessings for granted, but strive to live a life that glorifies His Name.
