Good Fight of Faith

1 Timothy 6:12 NKJV

“Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”

As believers, we are called to fight the “good fight of faith,” meaning we must stand firm, enriched by God’s Word and remain steadfast in our walk with Christ. Romans 10:17 says, “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of God.” So, by constantly edifying ourselves with His Word, our faith progressively grows. The Bible also says in James 2:26 that faith without works is dead. So, faith needs to be active or constantly nourished so that we can fight a good fight of faith all through our lives. Faith in God is not a private matter for a child of God, but it is something that we boldly confess before others by demonstrating our trust in Jesus.

While we build our faith, the Bible also encourages us to “lay hold on eternal life.” This means keeping our eyes on God’s promises rather than the temporary struggles of this world. In Matthew 14:22-33 we see Jesus enabling Peter to walk on water. As long as Peter focused on Jesus, he could walk on water fearlessly like his Master. Hebrews 12 says Jesus is the Author and Perfecter of our faith, and hence, we should focus on the One who made eternal life possible. By doing so, we shall fight the good fight of faith.

Therefore, when we face life challenges, we should rely on God and His Word to stand firm. Challenges come with an expiry date; however, God and His promises are constant and unchanging. And He equips us to share our faith through words and actions, encouraging one another to follow Christ.

Prayer: Lord, help me fight the good fight of faith. Strengthen me when I feel weak, and remind me of the eternal hope I have in You. May my life be a testimony of Your grace and power. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
