Psalm 84:5

Blessed is the man whose strength is in You, whose heart is set on pilgrimage.

Psalms 84 is the psalmist’s prayer expressing his desire to be in the courts of the Lord. In the past, the Israelites faced many toils and hardships on their pilgrimage to Zion. Yet, those who trusted in the Lord experienced His strength and blessings even before they reached their destination.

The Holy Bible inspires us with anecdotes of perseverance, examples of individuals who trusted and praised God while enduring the most challenging situations. Joseph, though despised by his brothers and later imprisoned, eventually becomes the prime minister of Egypt. Moses, despite his fears, leads the rebellious people of God out of slavery. Gideon, who is weak and anxious, transforms into a mighty commander. David, once a forgotten shepherd boy, becomes the most heroic king of Israel. Paul and Silas worship God in a prison and experience a supernatural escape.

We read of many others who persevered through adversities because their hearts were set on the One who strengthens them. What are our hearts set on? Are we weary of the many troubles and difficulties of life’s journey? Through the various seasons of life, we must stay connected to God Almighty. He will provide us with all the strength we need to face any challenge.

Today, you may be going through the worst possible situation in your life. Do not give up, but instead, call upon the Father. Set your heart on the only One who can strengthen you. Embrace His powerful presence and trust Him to lead you forward. Remember, blessings will follow those who draw their strength from God and set their hearts on Him and His dwelling place.

    1. Set your heart on pilgrimage. (In ancient Israel, a pilgrimage meant traveling to Zion, the dwelling place of God (Jerusalem), often through deserts and dangers. Spiritually, pilgrimage means our lifelong journey toward intimacy with God, through highs and lows, suffering and joy.)

    2. Draw strength from the Lord, not the world (God becomes our fuel, our anchor, and our source).

    3. Let every trial deepen your hunger for His presence.

    4. The blessing isn’t only at the destination – it’s in the journey with God.
