Matthew 7:11
“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!“
Matthew 7 is the last concluding portion of the sermon on the mount. This sermon is purely practical and teaches us the way of life in Christ. Matthew 7:11 was an encouragement regarding our prayer life. God is our good Father and surely blesses His children with the best blessing when ask Him.
We are thought to Ask, Seek, and Knock which can be rewritten as Pray; Pray often; Pray with sincerity, pray with perseverance, and be earnest in it.
Ask means represent your wants and burdens to God and rely on Him for support and supply. It also means to enquire of the Lord.
Seek God, His will, His providence, and His kingdom. Seek like how we look for something which is lost. With firm determination and desperation to find it.
Knock with perseverance, never giving up, and we will surely be admitted to converse with God and would be taken into His love, favor, and kingdom.
We should ask, seek and knock not as a stranger but as a child asking its father. So our prayer should be built on relationship. When we do so, Matthew 7:11 is a promise that we will surely be heard, our labor in prayer is not in vain. When our prayers are according to His will and it will only benefit us and not harm us He will answer us. However, for those prayers which ask for something which may harm us and brings sorrow, He is wise to deny it with love and kindness.
Therefore our God is a prayer answering God. We should be confident that His yes and no both are beneficial for us. Because Jer 29:11 says “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” So let us not seize praying earnestly.
Blessed Day Ahead.
