Matthew 5:6-7
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Jesus looked at the crowd with deep compassion because they were hungry for truth, healing, and hope. As people saw His miracles and heard His words, more and more came to Him.
The Beatitudes start with blessings and promises, showing God’s loving heart. Jesus teaches us to look beyond outward actions and focus on inner change. He calls us to hunger and thirst for His righteousness—and He promises to satisfy those who seek Him. Psalm 107:9 says, “He satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul He fills with good things.”
Luke 6:36 reminds us, “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.” We all need God’s mercy. When we forgive others—just as God forgives us—we reflect His mercy and become more like Christ. So, let’s ask God to show us the areas in our lives that need His touch. When we seek Him with faith, He will guide us and help us grow.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your compassion and mercy. Help us to hunger for Your righteousness and to forgive as You forgive. Show us the areas in our lives that need Your transforming touch. Fill our hearts with Your goodness and make us more like You each day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
