Honour and joy for shame and confusion

Isaiah 61:7:  For your shame ye shall have double; and for confusion they shall rejoice in their portion: therefore in their land they shall possess the double: everlasting joy shall be unto them.

The nation of Israel went through a lot of bad times.  They disobeyed God many times and worshipped foreign gods.  They were captured by foreign nations and taken as captives into exile.  God wanted to change their situation and honor them in a double measure.

The scriptures remind us that God’s anger is but for a moment and His favour is for a lifetime.  God wanted to restore Israel back to the place where they legally and rightfully belonged.  It is His promise to them that He will bring them back to their country from whereever they are scattered in the world.  God wanted to bless them in their land with the double measure of everything.  He wants His children to enjoy whatever they had lost both material blessings as well as spiritual.  God is a restorer of everything that we have lost.  He is true to His word.  Even if there is a delay in His promises getting fulfilled, they will all surely come to pass.  The longer we wait for His promise, the better it gets every day.  Sometimes, the best is kept on hold until there is nothing better than that.  God said to Israel that for their shame, they will have double and for confusion, they shall rejoice in their portion, meaning for their shame, they will have double honour and for confusion or for humiliation or reproach, they will rejoice in God who is their portion.  God is all in all.

Remember one thing that when we go through shame and reproach, that’s not the end of our story.  God is waiting to honour us and restore everything in a double measure.  He will fill us with everlasting joy.
