In the House of God

Psalm 84:10-11 – “I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.”

It’s a popular refrain, “One day in the house of God is better than a thousand days in the world,” but how many of us truly live it? Of course, we do believe it’s a blessing to spend time in God’s presence. But considering our hectic lifestyles, overwhelming commitments and constant busyness, we only have time to sprint through God’s house rather than dwell there.

We need to truly take stock of our lives and figure out what our priorities are. You may be driven to work hard and succeed in the world, but it cannot be at the cost of your soul. Matthew 6:33 says that when we seek the Lord first, He will take care of everything else we need.

How you dwell in God’s house is a decision you need to make. It can be the daily discipline of your personal quiet time, a weekly commitment to serve in church or making time to be more active in God’s kingdom. When you dwell in the house of God, you grow spiritually. God will not withhold any good thing from you! And as a bonus, He will bestow you with grace and glory, favor and honor in every other area of your life.
