Psalm 63:3-4

Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You. Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name.

David wrote this psalm while he was in the wilderness. He was desperately fleeing from his own son. His future felt uncertain, and he struggled with deep rejection.

In that miserable situation, he made a bold declaration. He said that God’s love is better than life itself. Under intense pressure, David prioritised God first. Even though his life was in danger, the threat seemed small when he remembered God’s great love.

It is a reminder to us that, even in life’s disappointments, we can find contentment in God. As we journey through our own wilderness seasons, we must look beyond our circumstances. When we choose to praise God, He meets us in the middle of our drought. He does what seems impossible. We must praise God for who He is and not just for what He does.

Our relationship with God should involve both our intellect and emotions. Remembering all that Christ has done for us should stir our hearts. When we reflect on His extraordinary love and unwavering faithfulness towards us despite our failures, it ought to awaken a deep affection for Him.

Lifted hands demonstrate our eagerness to receive from God. It also expresses thanksgiving and complete surrender. This gesture reveals our trust in God. It acknowledges His control over every area of our lives. It’s especially meaningful when we face difficulties beyond our control because we let go of our plans and allow God to guide us.

Let us intentionally praise God in adversity, surrendering every situation completely to Him. Let us shift our focus from difficulties to God’s faithfulness and His unchanging power.
