Romans 8:9 “But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.” (KJV)

The night before Jesus willingly went to the cross, He informed His disciples that He would leave each one of them with His Holy Spirit, to dwell in them and be their friend and counsellor. This was a promise of greater things to come.

When we receive Jesus into our lives, we receive Him in spirit. As a true believer it is absolutely important to know that the spirit of the living God, also known as the Holy Spirit lives within us. Through Him we become a new creation, born again in the likeness of Christ Jesus. We cease to belong to ourselves and forge a union with the Holy One.

The verse above makes it clear that God identifies us through His Holy Spirit. It is the gift of the Holy Spirit that brings us closer to God. God reveals Himself through His Spirit. We cannot be one with God, if we reject His spirit.

God empowers us through His Spirit. The Holy Spirit works and intercedes on our behalf. He consoles us in our sorrow and guides us in the right direction. He counsels us when things get complicated and strengthens us in times of weakness. He helps us make wise decisions and keeps us grounded at all times.

The Lord Jesus has fulfilled His promise of never leaving us or forsaking us by giving us a great helper and the perfect friend. He is a companion who will never leave our side.
