Jesus, the Light of the world

John 8:12:  Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Jesus is the light of the world.  Every child of God who follows Jesus will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.  Jesus claimed to be the light of this world.  All of us sure know the discomfort of being in darkness when electricity shuts down for some time, don’t we?  Until the generator is put to use or made functional, we all go through moments of frustration and wishing to see some light somewhere in the darkness.

Jesus said He is the light of the world.  For Jesus to say that, it means that the world is in darkness, darkness of sin and darkness of various other kind like unfaithulness, corruption, hatred, wars, etc.  Jesus just stands up and says to the world that He is the light of the world, shining out there brightly.  There is no hatred or jealousy in Him. He is forever faithful and just.  Sin takes to heels when it sees Jesus.  People who have given up of trying to live like children of light will derive their strength and hope again from Jesus.  No deeds of darkness or sin can ever hide in the light.  Jesus wants us to follow Him so that we shall never walk in darkness of this world.

In order for the deeds of darkness not to have power over us or rule us, follow Jesus or in other words walk in the light.  When we walk in the light, we shall have the light of life.  We need light to light our paths and guide us, don’t we? We need to know where we are heading to.  We need to know if there are any dangers lurking out there.  If we have the light that we need to have in us, we need to have no fear of any dark deeds that may try to overpower us in our walk of victory with Jesus.
