They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, along with everyone in your household.” Acts 16:31
Paul and Silas on their missionary journey preached God’s word to people where the Spirit of God led them. During this time a girl who was enabled to tell the future through the working of evil spirits kept announcing to people that Paul and Silas were servants of the Most High God, and had come to tell them how to be saved.”
Paul got upset and drove the evil spirit out of the lady. The people got angry with them and asked that they be punished. They were thrown in prison where they both prayed and sang hymns and the gates of the prison flew open. The Roman jailer thought prisoners escaped and pulled a sword to kill himself. After being appeased by Paul that none had escaped, the jailer asked Paul how to be saved? This is when Paul said the words in Acts 16:31. They shared God’s Word with him and all in his household.
What can we infer from this? It’s simple, anyone who believes in the Lord Jesus can be saved. As Paul said, it includes everyone in the household as long as they believe that Lord Jesus is the Son of the Most High, who came as a man to this world, was crucified for our sins, and was resurrected from the dead – conquering sin and death.
Being saved means being saved from eternal damnation in hell. It means living at the right hand of Lord Jesus in Heaven eternally when our earthly body turns to dust. It means living forever in our Heavenly home with our Heavenly Father. And for all this, all we must do is – to believe!
Dear Lord, thank you for being the path to our salvation. We believe in you Lord and through you, we receive forgiveness of our sins and everlasting life. Amen.
