Jesus, Our Anchor!

Psalms 112:7,8 – He will not be afraid of evil tidings; His heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord. His heart is established; he will not be afraid, until he sees his desire upon his enemies.

Mr. Forsey and his family from New Zealand are the survivors of a major storm. They lay at the sea anchor for 27 hours!  For 12 hours they were constantly being hit end for end by huge seas. The waves were so large and breaking, the boat wouldn’t have really pitch-poled, it would have been turned upside down and they’d have rolled over many times. The only reason they are alive today to tell their story is because of their sea anchor.

If we look up for the definition & function of an anchor, we’ll know that an anchor, attached with a cable is used to moor a ship to the bottom to prevent the boat from drifting away due to winds or current. When an anchor penetrates the surface of the seabed, suction generates resistance. As the boat pulls on the anchor rode, the anchor digs in deeper, creating additional resistance and helping the boat stay intact.

Similarly, when we make Jesus our personal savior and meditate on His word regularly, we will witness how God acts as the anchor helping us stay grounded in all high & low tides of life. When we have temptations or trials swinging us wildly, His word will secure us helping us be harbored and not drifted away. We will not be afraid, when we trust Him and establish ourselves under His care. It is God’s covenant to us that nothing can separate us from Him (Romans 8:39) and that He will never leave us nor forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:8). Therefore, let us remain steadfast by fixing your eyes on Christ Jesus and putting our hope and trust in Him.
