Proverbs 17:27 – “He who has knowledge spares his words, and a man of understanding is of a calm spirit.”

“Keep Calm and Carry On.” It’s a phrase we often find on social media, especially in recent years. The quote has been modified to suit a number of relatable memes that make people chuckle and nod in agreement. But did you know the phrase was first used in a motivational poster by the British government in 1939? The poster was printed to raise the morale of the British public ahead of World War II.

While “Keep Calm and Carry On” might seem like a frivolous quote now, there is some truth to it, and it is backed by today’s verse from the book of Proverbs. A man of understanding has a calm spirit. He is not in turmoil when tensions rise. He does not speak in haste; he measures his words. He knows when to speak up and when to stay silent.

When you are faced with chaos and stress, a mantra might not be sufficient to keep you calm. But God’s Word certainly can. The words in the Bible are living and active. They have the power to transform your thoughts and bring you peace.

You can keep calm when tempers flare all around you.

You can let your words be few so you don’t say anything you’ll regret later.

You can let go of anger and bitterness, and carry on with your life because the Lord Jesus Christ is with you.

Rely on the Lord’s promises to strengthen your faith and guide your day to day life. He will give you the wisdom to deal with every situation you face and the grace to remain cool under pressure.
