Psalm 41:1
“ Blessed is he who considers the poor; The Lord will deliver him in time of trouble.”
We are all born weak and poor. There are no invincible superheroes in real life. Some of us are not physically strong, some struggle financially, some are mentally affected and even worse, we are all spiritually weak. But we should know that by His amazing grace, Christ, our Savior, became poor to make us rich(2 Corinthians 8:9). This divine exchange was extravagant even though it costed God His only beloved son.
Being children of God, He expects us to imitate His generosity. God is pleased when we are a blessing to the needy and do good to others. Naturally, our flesh is selfish, so being generous does not come easily. Unless you trust in the Lord who provides abundantly without a measure, it is never going to be easy. When you are rooted in God’s presence and develop the fruit of the Spirit, then giving becomes voluntary. God loves a cheerful giver(2 Corinthians 9:7). Giving is an act of worship. Remember, we are only stewards of God’s blessings in our lives and nothing is ours to hoard.
We need to sync our giving to His will and bless the poor. The Bible says that when you are kind to the poor, you are lending to God(Proverbs 19:17). You gain worldly rewards when you give expecting payback. But when you help those who cannot give anything in return, God rewards you and we read here that He will even deliver you from your moments of trouble. What a blessing!
Your good works glorify your Father in Heaven(Mathew 5:16). Today, let’s consider being a vessel of God’s extravagant grace to the poor around us and through our actions, let’s exalt our Father.
