Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
The verse that we read is quite self-explanatory. It is a verse of praise, worship and proclamation. God’s limitless compassion gives us the comfort that we need even during times of tribulations.
Life is not easy. We often face trials and tribulations, be it big or small. They are overwhelming and take a toll on us. However, God will not remove them. Rather He will walk through the valley of the shadow of death with us. His love, His wisdom and presence will surround us and give us comfort, which builds to hope in our hearts. The light in us burns brighter as we increase our faith and God increases our hope.
The light will be made visible to our oppressors, rivals and adversaries, making us testimonial vessels for the glory of God. We become vessels of His love to share the comfort we’ve received. In doing so, we fulfil His purpose of drawing others closer to His heart.
In conclusion, let us not be disheartened. Instead let’s be as patient as humanly possible, glorifying and worshipping the Father. Even if there’s a storm around us, we are wrapped in the comforting hand of God. Let’s display Christ-like love to our neighbours, initially with our limited compassion, until God’s limitless compassion gives them abounding comfort in the times of their tribulations.
