Live From the Inside Out

Psalm 51:6

Behold, you desire truth in the inward parts, and in the hidden part you will make me to know wisdom.

This is the psalm written by David after the prophet Nathan confronted him of committing adultery. David was truly sorry for his sin with Bathsheba and for murdering her husband to cover it up. He knew that his actions hurt many people. Yet David repented of his sins, and God mercifully forgave him. No sin is too great to be forgiven! While God forgives us, He does not erase the natural consequences of our sins. David’s life and family were never the same as a result of what he had done.

There’s a secret space within each of us that only God truly sees. This hidden place—the inward parts of our soul—is where God searches for truth. Not just outward obedience or good appearances but honesty deep within is what he desires. David wrote these words in a moment of raw repentance. He wasn’t just sorry for what he had done; he realized that transformation begins with truthfulness before God.

God isn’t looking for perfection but for openness. He wants us to come to Him with our real thoughts, struggles, and wounds. When we allow Him into those hidden places, He doesn’t meet us with condemnation but with wisdom. He teaches us and gently reshapes us. He helps us see ourselves through His eyes and leads us back to wholeness.

Today’s verse invites us to live from the inside out. Let go of hiding, be honest in prayer, and let God do the deep work of forming His wisdom in our hearts.

“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” (Isaiah 1:18)
When tempted to do wrong, remember that you will be sinning against God. This thought will help you avoid the danger and consequences of sin.
