John 15:13 (KJV)
Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.
Love is a beautiful word and also the most misused word in our today world. We tell things like, I love my car or I love my phone and so on. But, are we willing to lay down our life for those things or even the people we love?
The real question is, what is love?
Bible tells us in Romans 5:8, God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. And in John 3:16, For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
The very nature of love is that it GIVES. God GAVE His son Jesus Christ for us, and Lord Jesus GAVE his life for us. We see that love is something that has always existed among the persons of the Trinity. Love has no beginning and does not end. And this is the love into which we are invited.
What does it mean to lay down your life for others? Jesus answered this question through the selfless examples of loving his disciples and caring for those the Father had given. He encouraged, He rebuked; He washed their feet, and He upbraided them for their unbelief.
We have no perfect lives of our own to lay-down for each other. Through the Power of the Holy Spirit we encourage you to participate in the same righteous life of our Lord Jesus Christ that set an example for us. Lay down your selfishness and replaced it with the supernatural love of our Lord Jesus Christ.
