MINDFUL SPEAKING

Proverbs 16:1 The preparations of the heart belong to man, But the answer of the tongue is from the Lord.

Many mothers claim to ‘know’ their children better than the child could know themselves. They know the weaknesses, mood swings, inclinations, fears, most probable choices, etc., of their children. These mothers know quite a lot, but their children are still individuals on their own. It’s just that being so involved, from the conception of the child to the growth of the child, they have learnt and understood their children. How much more does the Lord God know His children then?!

Similarly, God knows exactly how and what we are going to do or behave like, in any given situation. Yet, being God, He respects our free will. He allows us to make our own plans and think our own thoughts, often without His interference. That’s Him, giving us our freedom and space to expand our own selves. But when we realize that all that we are is in Him, we begin to operate differently.

We seek His direction, wisdom, knowledge, understanding and counsel, fully aware that His ways are far higher than our ways. Only from Him can come answers that are supreme and beyond. When we lean on Him and ask Him to direct our ways, He equips our very words with might. We need to know that the tongue has the power to manifest life or death. When the Lord ordains our words, He also releases that power into our lives. What a blessing it is to be like Samuel. 1 Samuel 3:19 says, as Samuel grew, the Lord was with Him and He let none of Samuel’s words fall to the ground. May this be our portion today. May we be mindful in our words and speech, sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, in Jesus’ Name!
